1. Use Visuals students often do not have a visual image and one needs to be provided  
2. Teach Vocabulary not just assign vocabulary, teach it.  
3. Make the topic relevant to the student example: if you are teaching the constitution, ask students to name something they think they should have as a right but don't have.  
4. Use graphic organizers some students have never been taught how to categorize and this will assist them in that  
5. Build on prior and PERSONAL knowledge example: if you are talking about hurricanes, ask students to share stories of any experience they may have had with hurricanes.  
6. Use visual analysis have students break down the information, think about each part of the visual and take the time to look and think about they are seeing  
7. Homework: Realize that most students do no have the home environment to complete or attempt this. Therefore, it is important that anything that you want to be sure that students learn, it needs to be done in class.  
8. Be sure you speak to ALL students, not just a few. It is important for all students to understand that they are just as much a part of the class, and are expected to learn and know as much as the rest of the class.  
9. Provide step by step instructions This helps students to be able to plan and/or proceed to the next step.  
10. Provide structure Whether it is in class procedures, classroom management, or assignments, have a clear plan in mind.
